Hotels near Basildon Park: Basildon Park, situated between Streatley and Pangbourne is a beautiful Palladian
Mansion, built by John Carr in 1776-83. Lord and Lady Iliffe restored the mansion
in 1952 after years of neglect at the beginning of the 20th Century. In 1978 the
house was presented to the National Trust who continued to restore the house and
grounds.
Basildon Park offers 400 acres of park and woodland with numerous beautiful waymarked
trails. The house it-self has some notable plasterwork, an elegant staircase,
and is full of fine pictures and furniture. One of the many interesting items
on show is the studies by Graham Sutherland for his tapestry 'Christ in Glory'
at Coventry Cathedral on display in the Sutherland Room.
